Conference: Wood decay in urban trees

Conference: Wood decay in urban trees
The two-day lab workshop provides attendees with detailed and specific information regarding identification, assessment and management of pathogenic wood decay fungi and their interactions with trees. The lab workshop will be hands-on with microscopes for direct examination of wood and fungi samples. The lab workshop will begin with a review of wood anatomy, focusing on cell types and the structure of the woody cell wall. It will then focus on adaptations of wood decay fungi to the differing properties of specific tree species. The wood decay process and its impact on the mechanical and structural properties of wood will then be investigated and discussed, with participants using microscopes to examine prepared samples.
